Furman’s George Quarles introduced as 19th head football coach at East Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University held a news conference Thursday afternoon to introduce George Quarles as the 19th head football coach at the Johnson City school.
Quarles’ historic career has its roots deep in the state with his playing days at Jefferson County then producing a dynasty at Maryville High School where he captured 11 state championships including four consecutive 6A titles.
He leaves Furman to take over an ETSU program that just completed its most successful run in school history with a trip to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals.
“We were content where we were but God works in mysterious ways,” he said during his remarks.
