“It Won’t Be Cheap, Expert Tells BVCC Members Concerning Mitigation Efforts At City’s Landfill

It won’t be cheap. That’s what Bristol Virginia City leaders heard Tuesday evening from a top landfill expert on the continued efforts to mitigate foul odors seeping from the City’s landfill. Dr. Craig Benson, a former dean of engineering at UVA has experience with similar landfill problems told council about a three step plan to seal off the edges of the landfill, continue monitoring and removal of excess gas and water from the site. Benson says the entire process will be time consuming, but will minimize long term costs.
