Uptick in regional parvo cases sparks warnings, reminders from local animal agencies
Local animal shelters are speaking out on the dangers and signs of parvovirus in dogs after an increase in cases regionally. Last week, Greene County, Tennessee Animal Control announced they halted all dog intake at their facility due to an outbreak of parvo, and will resume intake on April 28th. This outbreak resulted in euthanasia of some animals, officials say.
On Monday, the Washington County, TN Animal Shelter said in a social media post that dog owners should be very cautious when buying a puppy or exposing their dogs to others during this uptick in cases. Shelter officials say animal owners should be aware of common signs of parvo, and how to prevent it. Dogs should be vaccinated and kept in good hygiene. A full list of symptoms of parvovirus can be found on the Washington County, TN Animal Shelter’s social media.
