Southwest Virginia gridiron stars get shot at NFL
Two men who are products of local high school football programs in Southwest Virginia will get a shot to start in the National Football League after being drafted over the weekend.
Jordan Stout of Honaker was the first punter of the draft taken when his name was called in Round 4 by the Baltimore Ravens. Stout set several field goal records while at Penn State.
Big Stone Gap native and Virginia Tech tight end James Mitchell was selected in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions and already has a rookie deal in place for $3.9 million according to published reports.
