No injuries reported at Y-12 in Oak Ridge following uranium based fire
Crews were able to contain a fire that started in a uranium production facility on the grounds of the Y-12 National Security Complex in neighboring Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
In a noon press conference, officials said no injuries were reported and continuous air monitors detected no release of radioactivity following the fire at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
A soft lockdown was ordered and all employees were accounted for. The fire involved a uranium compound and a full exam will be conducted to determine the cause.
