Documents: Hawkins County judge arrested and charged
More details have been released about the case and arrest of Hawkins County Criminal Court Judge Daniel Boyd who was indicted by a grand jury on Monday.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was contacted by District Attorney Dan Armstong in May to begin investigating allegations of bribery and forgery involving Boyd.
The TBI report issued Tuesday said the charges stem from Boyd’s private law practice and a client that hired him for divorce proceedings. Boyd reportedly issued the client a document that was signed by the Chancellor of 3rd Judicial District finalizing the case.
Further review determined that document was never submitted and Boyd forged the signature, according to the report. It also says Boyd offered the client money in exchange for dropping the judicial complaint against him.
Boyd was taken into custody Tuesday and was released on a bond after being processed at the jail in Rogersville.

Hawkins County Juvenile Court Judge Daniel Boyd was arrested and processed at the Rogersville jail complex on three charges.
Records obtained by Bristol Broadcasting show Boyd is charged with one count of theft or criminal simulation, and bribery of a witness. Additional information released by the TBI said Boyd was also indicted on one count of forgery. He was released after processing.
Boyd’s charges come from evidence presented to a grand jury who later indicted him on the two felonies. The position of Juvenile Court Judge became full-time in January after approval from the County Commission and through legislation approved by the General Assembly.
Records online show Boyd was censured by the TN Supreme Court’s Board of Professional Responsibility in 2019 due to an ethical complaint filed by a client of Boyd’s private practice.
As a result of a TBI investigation, a Hawkins County attorney, who also serves as a judge, has been indicted on several charges, including forgery.
