Lee County School’s Plan To Arm Teachers Hits Major Roadblock
It now appears the Lee County, Virginia School System’s plan to arm teachers this year due to a lack of resource officers will not happen. The Department of Criminal Justice Services has denied School Superintendent Brian Austin’s application to register as an armed special conservator of the peace. The state agency’s decision also backs up Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Herrings earlier claim the plan to arm teachers was unlawful. Governor Northram has also spoke out against the proposal to arm some Lee County teachers.
