TVA sets power demand record Wednesday

Tennessee Valley Authority officials said they faced a record demand for electricity Wednesday morning, second only to a heatwave in August 2007. That’s the highest in TVA’s history in 91 years but not as high as TVA officials had thought. A TVA spokesperson said the calls to conserve energy were not because of any risk of blackouts but instead to give the TVA a bigger safety margin during the expected peak. Administrators at local utilities said they experienced almost no outages Wednesday.
