Scam alert for Washington County TN residents
Washington County Tennessee area residents have reported receiving letters from a nonexistent office in Washington County over the weekend. The Washington County Sheriff’s office says this is a scam. The Tax Assessment Securities Office does not exist and residents receiving letters telling them they owe money are fraudulent. The letter comes with the heading “Distraint Warrant” and instructs the individual to call a number within 15 days of receiving the notice to settle a tax liability. Police tell residents receiving such notices in the mail, to not call the number.
