Buchanan County records its first case of rabies this year
Local and state officials confirmed testing on two juvenile bats in Buchanan County revealed the first case of rabies in the locality this year.
A pet owner contacted the health department after their cat and two kittens had captured the bats last week with one testing positive.
Some suggestions if you suspect possible exposure to the virus: contact local health officials, be preventive by getting your pet vaccinated, and keep animals confined to your property.
