Roads begin to open after hurricane Helene impact
After Hurricane Helene left one community inaccessible, the Little Germany in Washington County, Tennessee, is again connected to the rest of the region. A new road to the community has been built after floodwaters washed the original one away. Residents of the community had to communicate through amateur radio after the storm wiped out other options. And State Route 91, also damaged in Helene in multiple locations between the TN/VA state line and the Laurel Bloomery community in Johnson County, has reopened. Officials say over 11,000 tons of rock were brought to fix the roadway. Repairs took 11 working days. Workers are still along the route re-installing guardrails.
