Portion of I-40 in Cocke County partially reopens to local traffic
Interstate 40 has partially reopened across Cocke County after the Tennessee Department of Transportation closed large sections that were damaged by Helene flooding. A TDOT spokesperson announced Monday that one lane in each direction of I-40 from mile marker 446 to 451 just before the Tennessee/North Carolina state line in Cocke County are now open. The route is opened is LOCAL traffic only and I-40 to North Carolina remains closed. I-40 is open as normal leading up to mile marker 446. Interstate 26 between Erwin and the Tennessee/North Carolina state line opened earlier this month to local drivers.
