No threat to public from chemical release and Holston Army Ammunition Plant
Holston Army Ammunition Plant said a chemical release at the facility on Tuesday night did not pose a threat to the public. The plant reported a nitric acid release, through a social media post. The procedure posed no danger to the community around the plant, and local fire and emergency services were present, there were no injuries to employees. Holston Army Ammunition Plant, located in west Kingsport, produces explosives for the military and is operated by BAE Systems. Tuesday the plant announced it would be conducting explosive demonstrations on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
