Kingsport Alderman Decide To Remove Downtown Main Street Power Lines And Poles
A major renovation and improvement project for Kingsport’s Main Street is expected to begin next summer. And when it does, one of the improvements will be to remove and relocate the existing power poles and their lines to the other side of the street. The power lines would go under the street to improve the appearance to one of the city’s major thoroughfares to the downtown district. All of this was not suppose to happen after a Board of Mayor and Alderman’s meeting last month when they decided to shelve the project. Now, board members have changed their minds by a four to three vote and plan to go ahead with the removal of the power poles. The cost of entire project is said to be five and a half million dollars, funded mostly by the state.
