West Nile Virus Making Some Horses Sick In East Tennessee

The West Nile Virus is making some horses in East Tennessee sick,according to state health department officials. Five confirmed cases are being reported in the region. Two horses in Washington County Tennessee have become sick, while one horse in Sullivan County has the virus. Symptoms of the virus include, fever, weakness and loss of appetite or convulsions. The illness can cause lasting effects and can even be fatal in some cases. The virus is caused by mosquitoes and other biting insects. Health officials are urging horse owners to take appropriate preventative measures.
