County Commissioners Turn Down TIF Proposal By Johnson City
Washington County Tennessee Commissioners have voted down a proposal by the Johnson City Development Authority that would have used tax increment financing to aid in the purchase of the John Sevier Building in downtown. The authority planned to purchase the building which now provides for low income housing for just over four million dollars, but the purchase needed the approval of the commission which voted down the plan by a seven to seven vote. Tax increment financing, which is used to generate funding for improvements to blighted areas needs approval by county commissioners. The authority will meet next week to determine next steps for the project.
