Kingsport Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication Following I-26 Crash
A Kingsport man has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after he struck another vehicle with his truck just after midnight Tuesday morning on Interstate 26
According to the Johnson City Police Department 29-year-old William Lawson was driving a Ford F-150 when he rear-ended a Honda Civic at high rate of speed. The car was driven by 21-year-old Raymond Cox who had slowed down for emergency crews assisting in a prior wreck.
The collision propelled Cox and the Civic down the interstate into center cable barriers where it came to a rest.
Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lawson was unhurt in the accident and was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, driving under the influence, possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of prescription medications.
Lawson is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $51,000 bond.
