Family Poverty Simulation to Be Held in Bristol, Tn on Thursday; Participants Needed
The Poverty Education and Awareness Task Force will conduct a Community Poverty Simulation on Thursday, March 14 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the YWCA NETN & SWVA in Bristol, TN.
The Poverty Simulation is designed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our friends and neighbors who live in poverty.
During the event, participants are given a real-world scenario and role-play the lives of families living at or below the poverty line, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to make ends meet on Social Security.
Scenarios explored include keeping or finding shelter and paying utilities, feeding families, making loan payments,, meeting living expenses, handling unexpected emergencies and seeking employment.
The simulation needs approximately 70 participants for a successful event. There is no cost to attend but you must register by emailing the United Way of Bristol office at lorie@unitedwaybristol.com or by calling the office at 423-968-4912
