Virginia DMV Releases 2018 Crash Statistics, Overall Fatalities Number Down from 2017
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office has released its 2018 crash statistics.
For the first time in five years, the overall number of crash fatalities in the Commonwealth decreased, with 819 fatalities reported, slightly below the number in 2017. Despite the four percent decrease from year to year, crash types like alcohol related fatalities, teen driver fatalities, and pedestrian fatalities increased.
DMV Commissioner Richard Holcomb challenges the citizens of Virginia to work together further reducing the number of fatalities beyond the 2014 record low of 700.
