Abingdon High School Student Identified as Victim in Fatal Incident on Interstate 81

An Abingdon High School student set to graduate tonight has been identified as the victim in Thursday night’s fatal incident on Interstate 81.

According to Virginia State Police, an accident that had occurred earlier last night caused a backup in traffic. That’s when a 2015 Lexus, operated by Kirk Nairn, 18, rear ended the back of a tractor trailer. Nairn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
