Judge Rules Southwest Virginia Jail Authority Violating Prisoner Rights
The Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority is violating the rights of a prisoner rights organization. That’s according to a judges recent ruling. The Human Rights Defense Center filed the suit against the jail, stating it prohibited inmates from obtaining books, magazine and other products distributed by the Defense Center. The judge ruled prisoners were not allowed to visit book rooms and prisoners do not always receive requested books, even if it was donated by family. The case now goes to a jury on damages and another hearing on determining injunction relief for the Defense Center.
