Tennessee Passes Corporal Punishment Legislation

The Tennessee House and Senate have approved legislation the would require schools to produce an annual report on the number of times corporal punishment is used on kids with disabilities and the types of disabilities involved. This comes in the wake of a report finding students with disabilities being paddled at a higher rate than their peers. Currently, the federal government collects data on the issue every two years. The new legislation would require more detailed data provided every year to the Tennessee Department of Education including if a child has an active individualized education program or an active 504 plan.
