Roan Mountain Man Leads Unicoi Police on High Speed Chase
A Roan Mountain man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high speed chase that resulted in minor injuries to two Unicoi County deputies. Officers attempted to pull over Joey Clipse, 38, on Interstate 26 but he kept going. Clipse would continue to travel east towards North Carolina. Deputies then tried stopping him with spike strips but failed to do so. At times Clipse reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. After that a road block was deployed which Clipse rammed head on causing both vehicles to crash. Clipse would be arrested and taken to the Unicoi Jail where he is being held on 440,000 for charges of DUI, reckless endangerment, evading, aggravated assault, and possession of meth.
