Abingdon Police Investigating Social Media Post Made by Middle School Student

Abingdon Police have responded to a social media post made by a middle school student threatening to shoot up a school.

A report from the Abingdon Police Department says investigators interviewed the student and talked with the mother about the post.

The student admitted to making the post, and it happened while the student was playing XBOX with a friend. The friend dared him to make the post with the hopes of not having to attend school the next day.

Abingdon Police at this time have determined the threat not to be credible, but want to remind the public, that the school and their agency takes all threats seriously.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident at this time.
