Carter County Child Dies after Drowning in Pond

A 10-year old boy who fell into a pond in Roan Mountain has died.

According to officials with Carter County Rescue, the child went across the street behind a farm where the frozen pond was, and walked on the surface before falling through.

Emergency officials say the child’s sibling found him in the pond, and as rescue crews found the child, he had no pulse, to which then the crew tried to resuscitate him.

He was transported to a rescue headquarters then airlifted to Niswonger Children’s Hospital, where he died around 6 P.M. last night.
