Interstate 81 Improvement Plan Signed by Governor Northam

A $2.2 billion improvement is coming to Interstate 81 in Virginia.
The bill signed by Governor Ralph Northam on Friday, calls for the funding of the heavily trafficked road and a committee to develop and update safety and improvement programs for the Interstate. Among some of the changes will be traffic cameras and increased message boards. As far as funding goes, it includes three taxes in the form of a diesel tax, a regional gas tax, a roads tax, and a registration fee for non passenger vehicles over 10,000 pounds.
The new legislation goes into effect July 1st.
