ARC Ranks Buchanan County As Economically Distressed
An Appalachian Regional Commission report recently released has listed southwest Virginia’s Buchanan County as distressed when it comes to the county’s economic status entering the 2020 fiscal year. A county ranked as distressed places it among the worst ten percent of the counties in the nation according to the report. 80 counties showed up as distressed and were mainly located in coal counties in West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia. Tazewell County, also in southwest Virginia was ranked as at risk.
