Coal operations with ties to SW Virginia file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
A coal company with ties to Southwest Virginia is being criticized following a bankruptcy announcement and reports of hundreds of coal miners having their paychecks bounce. Revelation Energy and Blackjewel Mining filed for Chapter 11 protection and a federal judge has given permission for the company to receive a $5 million lifeline from creditors with the condition that CEO Jeff Hoops resigns. State records show Revelation still has licensed operations in Buchanan, Russell and Wise counties.
