UPDATE: Blackjewel Coal facing class action suit

A class action lawsuit filed in West Virginia could deliver much needed back pay to laid off coal miners. The suit accuses Blackjewel Coal of failing to meet federal laws that require a company to notify workers of a layoff or closure 60 days prior. Miners in several states and localities including Southwest Virginia saw their paychecks bounce earlier this month as Blackjewel abruptly idled operations, leaving more than 1,000 workers without jobs. Another related court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
