UPDATE: Smyth County man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter for fatal January crash
A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash from earlier this year in Smyth County has pleaded guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Joseph Howard Kestner, 31, of Marion, was convicted of failure to stop at an accident scene during the January 6 crash. Kestner’s car burst through the home of 87-year-old Margaret Poe of Chilhowie located on Riverside Road and then hit the woman when the vehicle entered her bedroom. Kest-ner will be sentenced on Sept. 4.
