That’s Elizabethton Police Chief Jason Shaw explaining how his department kept the public safe during a nearly three hour standoff Wednesday morning. Officers conducted a welfare check on an individual armed with a rifle and handgun at a residence on Blevins Avenue. The armed subject retreated into the home and negotiators were able to convince him to put down his weapons and he was arrested without further incident. The individual was take to a hospital for a medical and mental evaluation.
