Abingdon Town Council Formally Opposes Washington County Courthouse Relocation
The Abingdon Town Council has passed a resolution opposing the Washington County Board of Supervisors plan to relocate the county courthouse to the former Kmart location in the Town Centre.
The Council met last night and passed the resolution 4-0, citing several reasons for opposition. A draft resolution from council members expresses concern about additional traffic in the area along with the Meadows retail outlet as well as current zoning of the Kmart property.
A referendum vote for the November election is proposed by the Board of Supervisors regarding the future of the courthouse.
