Drought Conditions Still Evident Across Tri-Cities/Southwest VA Despite Weekend Rains
Despite large amounts of rainfall across our region over the weekend, much of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee continue to suffer from prolonged drought conditions.
A large part of our area received between 1 and 2 inches of rain from Friday to Sunday, however, the rainfall has yet to alleviate drought conditions and it is also not yet enough rainfall for some counties to lift their burn ban. The city of Kingsport and Washington County, VA lifted their bans last week, with leaders in Washington County formally lifting the ban at tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
Both Tennessee and Virginia are officially in fire season.
