UPDATE: Trial for driver accused of killing Cloudland High School student in 2018 set for May

Judge Lisa Rice has denied a motion to dismiss charges in a Carter County case based on a 2018 crash that left a teenager dead.
Cory Ray Mowdy, 30, of Kingsport, is now set for a May 20th trial in Criminal Court on an aggravated vehicular homicide charge. Mowdy was arrested in North Carolina in March then extradited back to Tennessee to face charges.
The crash occurred on Highway 19E. Mowdy’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck another car head-on, killing a passenger—17-year-old Brandi Thompson of Roan Mountain who was a student at Cloudland High School. Two others were injured.
