Tennessee Criminal Justice Investment Task Force Releases Recommendations

A task force examining challenges within Tennessee’s criminal justice system is releasing a list of 23 recommendations seeking to improve public safety, in the Volunteer state. Governor Lee charged the task force with developing solutions to strengthen pubic safety with policies grounded in the state’s corrections data. Among the recommendations include strengthening responses to individuals with behavioral health needs, as well as minimizing barriers to successful reentry. Tennessee’s incarceration rate has risen to ten percent above the national average and has the fourth highest violent crime rate in the nation according to the release.
