AAA: Record number of travelers expected for this year’s Christmas holiday
Records are set to be broken regarding travel for the Christmas holiday season.
That’s according to AAA, who expects over 115 million people to travel at least 50 or more miles, starting from this past Saturday to the first of the year. This is expected to be the most ever since AAA began keeping records in 2000 and shows a nearly 4% increase compared to last year.
Of the 115 million expected travelers, 104 million are anticipated to hit the roadways, with travel congestion expected to the be the worst on December 26th. TDOT and VDOT have announced halting lane closures and most construction on major highways and state roadways.
