UPDATE: Erwin woman dies from serious injuries after being struck by vehicle while scraping ice from her windshield
An Erwin woman has succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a vehicle that also struck her parked car while she was scraping ice from her windshield.
According to the Johnson City Police Department, last Friday morning, an investigation found that a 2016 Scion driven by Joe Greer Jr., 37, of Gate City, VA was traveling on East Watauga Avenue when he allegedly struck a 2007 Honda Civic and then the owner of that vehicle Laurel Banner, 24.
Banner was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center ICU to be treated for serious injuries and passed away the next day.
The crash is still under investigation.

A woman who was scraping ice from her vehicle’s windshield is seriously injured Thursday morning when the driver of another vehicle crashed into her vehicle, then striking the victim. 24 year old Laurel Banner received serious injuries when 37 year old Joe Greer, Jr of Gate City hit Banner’s Honda Civic as he traveled east on E Watauga Avenue when his Scion hit the Honda and then seriously injured Banner as she scraped ice from her windshield. Banner was taken to Johnson City Medical Center’s ICU with serious injuries. The investigation is being conducted by the Johnson City Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
