Gene Haas Foundation provides $15,000 grant to VHCC machining students
A California foundation has provided a $15,000 grant for 24 precision machining students at Virginia Highlands Community College.
Funds from the Gene Haas Foundation will be split between the students to be used as a $500 stipend and according to Assistant Professor of Machine Technology Johnnie Keene, this is just one of many ways the Haas Foundation has supported Virginia Highlands machining students over the years.
“We use Haas machines in our shop to make sure students become expert machinists who are familiar with some of the best equipment in the industry,” said Keene.
The College’s machine lab is equipped with several Haas machines and other industry leading equipment to help students learn skills and techniques required by regional employers for new machinists.
