TN lawmaker proposing bill to allow each county a referendum vote to legalize marijuana
A Knoxville based lawmaker has introduced a bill that could let every county in Tennessee decide whether it wants to legalize marijuana.
HB1610 by Rick Staples would allow for a referendum vote that could legalize the growing, manufacturing, delivery, and sale of marijuana within a county’s borders by a person or business. Additionally, an election would take place on the matter if either the majority of the county’s legislative body voted in favor, or a petition bearing signatures of 10% or more of qualified county voters.
If passed, the bill would take effect July 1st, 2020.
