Church Hill woman facing charges related to shootout at Sevierville motel

Two people including a woman from Hawkins County are now charged following a standoff with officers at a motel in Sevierville.

Richard Smith, 31, of Knoxville faces 10 counts of attempted first-degree murder for firing shots at police officers during the incident at Days Inn on Winfield Dunn Parkway. Megan Arnold, 22, of Church Hill, was charged with criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony, according to a report from the Sevierville Police Department.

Law enforcement had been investigating the two in relation to a burglary and stolen vehicle case when police said Smith began shooting through the motel room door. No injuries were reported.
