Virginia’s Democratically Controlled Legislature Approves ERA Measure…Southwest Virginia Republicans Vote No
The Democratically controlled Virginia Legislature moves to the brink of becoming the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment after lawmakers approved the measure Wednesday, but all four southwest Virginia republicans lawmakers in Richmond voted against the measure.. The approval is a momentous victory for many women’s rights advocates. But it appears the vote followed party lines as Southwest Virginia Delegates Terry Kilgore, William Moorefield, Israel O’Quinn and Will Wampler all voted no on the measure, which makes Virginia the pivotal 38th state to ratify the amendment.
