VSP: One killed in crash in Rural Retreat involving school bus

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Wythe County, Virginia involving a school bus.

According to a State Police report, a passenger vehicle and a Wythe County Public Schools bus were traveling along the area of the 5700 block of West Lee Highway and Route 11 in Rural Retreat, when both collided. No children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and only the bus driver and an assistant were on board.

The assistant was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
