Buchanan County deputy receives commendation for saving injured driver

A deputy with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office is being credited with saving the life of an injured motorist in December.

A report said Lt. Ryan Mitchell arrived at the crash scene on Coon Branch Road after getting a report of an injured female bleeding and barely breathing. Mitchell was able to apply a tourniquet to the victim’s arm and stayed with her until EMTs arrived.

The woman, Haley Blankenship, contacted Sheriff John McClanahan during her recovery to commend Mitchell for his quick actions that helped her. The Sheriff has issued a commendation to the lieutenant for using his SWAT training and other skills to help the county resident.
