Virginia Bill Bans Discrimination On The Basis Of Hair
Governor Ralph Northam has signed a bill into law prohibiting the discrimination of an individuals hair, including hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles associated with a particular race. House Bill 1514 clarifies when the law bans racial discrimination on the basis of race, that also will now include traits historically associated with race. The Governor says the bill is simple, if we send children home from school because their hair looks a certain way, or otherwise ban certain hairstyles associated with a particular race, that is discrimination and is not only unacceptable but wrong.
