Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office warns familiar phone scams impersonating Sheriff’s office employees may be starting again
Familiar phone scams of impersonating a Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office employee have reportedly started again.
Captain Andy Seabolt says the scams include phone scammers calling residents, giving the names of sheriff’s office employees, and stating that they have a warrant for their arrest due to missing jury duty with options of either sending money or going to jail. Another scam involves stating a family member is in jail and the scammer asking for money to send for the bond.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that under no circumstances would they contact anyone requesting money to avoid going to jail and encourages anyone that receives such calls to report them.
