Old Dominion Power Raising Electricity Rates, Despite Strong Opposition
Despite pleas from the region’s state lawmakers. Customers in southwest Virginia who receive electricity from Old Dominion Power could see their electric bill jump 20 dollars a month, on average after a recently approved rate increase. The timing of the increase could not come at worse time as record unemployment numbers and the Virginia economy takes a downturn due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The rate increase is expected to boost the utility’s operating revenues by nine million dollars. We reached out to Old Dominion for a comment concerning the rate hike but have not heard back the utility.
