TBI: Crime trending down through Jan-Mar of 2020 amid COVID-19
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says COVID-19 has played an impact on crime trends through the first three months of the year.
Preliminary statistics from the state agency says burglaries are down by 17% compared to last year’s figures, home burglaries have decreased by 20%, but burglaries in public places like convenience stores are up over 15%.
Reported domestic violence incidents are down 4%.
Combined numbers of violent crimes and reported thefts have decreased by over 5%, but the number of those crimes involving a firearm have increased over 3%.
The TBI notes these statistics are subject to change with more investigation set to be conducted.
