Northeast Tennessee Sees More Than 17 Hundred New Unemployment Claims For Start Of May

Even as businesses in Northeast Tennessee continue to slowly reopen under certain restrictions, Northeast Tennessee saw more than 17 hundred new unemployment claims filed the first week of May. During that time, one thousand seven hundred and eighty one people filed a new unemployment claim in the Northeast Tennessee Workforce Development Area. Those numbers in helped elevate the statewide number of new unemployment claims to more than 37 thousand for May second. So far the state has seen more than 300 thousand Tennesseans continue their unemployment claims since the COVID-19 Pandemic began.
