Virginia Governor Announces Temporary Moratorium On Evictions
At Governor Ralph Northam’s request, Virginia’s Chief Justice is suspending all eviction proceedings through June 28. Chief Justice Donald Lemons issued the order on Monday and modifies the Court’s earlier Declaration of Judicial Emergency in response to COVID-19. The temporary moratorium will halt all eviction proceedings for a period of nearly three weeks. Northam and his administration are implementing a comprehensive rent relief program for the thousands of Virginian’s facing housing insecurity in the midst of the current pubic health crisis. More information on program will be announced in the coming weeks.
