55,318 new unemployment claims filed last week in TN and VA, both states experience increase from week prior
Over 55,000 first time jobless claims were filed last week in Tennessee and Virginia.
Both states saw increases in new unemployment claims according to the US Department of Labor weekly jobs report. Tennessee reported 22,256 first time jobless claims for the week ending June 27th, while in Northeast TN, 984 first time claims were filed. Nearly 15,000 continued claims were filed across the seven local counties last week.
Across the border, VA experienced a nearly 8,000 first time claim increase from the week before, as 33,062 new jobless claims were filed. In total, 1.42 million first time initial claims were filed across America from the week before. Below is a breakdown of claims filed in Northeast TN:

Washington County- 246 new claims (4,008 continued)
Total new claims- 984 new claims (14,615 continued claims)
